The Builders' Choice for
High End Sussex Home Renovation

The Project

As part of renovation works a home in Ditchling, East Sussex, Managing Director of Sussex Building Services (SBS), specified a bespoke Stella conservation rooflight as a major design feature, that would flood the entrance area with much needed natural daylight.

SBS describe themselves as the M&S of the building trade, offering their clients a range of high-end construction works. they have operated throughout the Sussex area for more than 20 years and have built the business around the core values of quality, service, and trust – standards for which they are well reputed among their domestic and commercial customers.

High Standard Refurbishment

SBS are insistent on using only the highest quality products throughout all their build projects.

Their latest project is a 1930’s bungalow, sitting in 5 acres of stunning East Sussex countryside. Despite having had various extensions and modifications over the years, completed by previous owners, SBS applied all their knowledge, experience and skills to give the home the transformation it was crying out for.

SBS has created a stunning new home with a semi open plan kitchen and downstairs living space with wall to ceiling glass leading to a striking outdoor garden and entertaining area, all set within the backdrop of the beautiful East Sussex countryside.

A Focal Point for the Home

The exquisite design runs throughout the entire house and is first observed via a welcoming bright entrance hall and stairwell leading up to a landing space with feature lighting and the large Stella rooflight, which has completely transformed what was previously a poorly lit, dim area into a bright, open space – a real focal point in the centre of their home.

High Quality British Manufacturing

The bespoke made Stella Conservation Rooflight is manufactured to a fixed design with a single outer frame and high specification, self-clean double glazed unit. Made using 316 marine grade stainless steel (as is the case for all Stella rooflights), with an internal rafter size measuring 2200mm (w) x 1800mm (h).

On the inside the rooflight is finished with an American Ash liner, which compliments the interior design of the surrounding hallway and landing area. Stella also supplied a bespoke lead flashing kit, with pre-formed soakers, for installation in the plain clay tile roof.

Excellent Sevice

MD of SBS said: “We approached several companies to quote for the rooflight, but no one was able to offer the same high specification, stainless steel construction and bespoke service that Stella offered. My decision to use Stella proved to be absolutely the right one and I have been hugely impressed with their approach throughout; from their swift response to my initial enquiry and excellent communication at every stage, right through to the delivery."

“I could tell from the extremely robust packing that this was no ordinary product and once we had removed the product from its bespoke pallet, it became apparent that this was a product of exceptional quality and that every care had been taken in its production. I was also impressed with the quality and workmanship of the accompanying lead flashing kit.

Flush Fitting Conservation Profile

One of the major considerations in specifying a Stella rooflight, was the flush fitting appearance. They didn’t want a chunky frame sticking out of the roof, but rather a subtle, more refined look that would not only seamlessly integrate with the roof profile externally, but also allow the maximum amount of daylight on the inside. The Stella rooflight achieved this perfectly.

All too often builders opt for the cheapest solution when it comes to rooflights as the budget for a renovation or build is concentrated on other areas such as kitchen worktops and appliances. However, arguably it is products such as rooflights, which can often make the biggest difference, and should be given greater priority.

Recommended by Builders

SBS MD said: “I regularly advise my clients that it’s not all about price, but more about quality. Spending a little extra upfront can save you in the long run, and help you achieve the standard of finish and design that you set out to achieve.”

“I’ll definitely be recommending Stella rooflights to all my customers with a requirement for a pitched rooflight.”
