As part of a home renovation in Ditchling, East Sussex, the Managing Director of Sussex Building Services (SBS) specified a bespoke Stella conservation rooflight.
This rooflight would flood the entrance area with natural daylight. SBS, known as the M&S of the building trade, offers high-end construction services.
Operating in Sussex for over 20 years, they have built a reputation for quality, service, and trust among domestic and commercial customers.
SBS insists on using top-quality products in all their projects.
Their latest work involves transforming a 1930s bungalow on 5 acres of East Sussex countryside.
Despite previous extensions by past owners, SBS used their expertise to give the home a much-needed makeover.
The result is a stunning new home with a semi-open plan kitchen and downstairs living space, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass leading to an impressive outdoor garden and entertaining area, all set against the beautiful East Sussex backdrop.
The exquisite design is evident throughout the house, starting with a bright entrance hall and stairwell.
A landing with feature lighting and a large Stella rooflight transforms a previously dim area into a bright, open space.
This area now serves as a focal point in the center of the home.
The custom-made Stella Conservation Rooflight features a fixed design with a single outer frame and high-specification, self-clean double glazed unit.
It is crafted from 316 marine-grade stainless steel, with an internal rafter size of 2200mm x 1800mm. Inside, it is finished with an American Ash liner that complements the hallway and landing design.
Stella also provided a bespoke lead flashing kit with pre-formed soakers for installation on the plain clay tile roof.
MD of SBS said: “We approached several companies to quote for the rooflight, but no one was able to offer the same high specification, stainless steel construction and bespoke service that Stella offered.
"My decision to use Stella proved to be absolutely the right one and I have been hugely impressed with their approach throughout; from their swift response to my initial enquiry and excellent communication at every stage, right through to the delivery.
“I could tell from the extremely robust packing that this was no ordinary product and once we had removed the product from its bespoke pallet, it became apparent that this was a product of exceptional quality and that every care had been taken in its production.
"I was also impressed with the quality and workmanship of the accompanying lead flashing kit."
A major reason for choosing a Stella rooflight was its flush fitting appearance.
They wanted a subtle, refined look that seamlessly integrates with the roof profile and maximizes daylight inside.
The Stella rooflight achieved this perfectly. Builders often choose cheaper rooflights due to budget constraints focused on areas like kitchen worktops and appliances.
However, high-quality rooflights like those from Stella can make the biggest impact and deserve greater priority.
SBS MD said: “I regularly advise my clients that it’s not all about price, but more about quality. Spending a little extra upfront can save you in the long run, and help you achieve the standard of finish and design that you set out to achieve.”
“I’ll definitely be recommending Stella rooflights to all my customers with a requirement for a pitched rooflight.”
