Old Byre Barn Conversion

Stella Rooflights are perfect for heritage buildings and barn conversions

The Project

The Old Byre in Blaston, Leicestershire, is home to Andy and Carolyn Miros.

This property, dating back to around 1870, originally consisted of two single-story cow sheds, part of Pastures Farm.

Today, a feature walkway connects the two buildings, separating the main living space from the guest suites and master bedroom.

A Labour of Love

The Miros family's renovation of The Old Byre was a significant project, requiring extensive internal and external work.

While much of the original brickwork remained intact, external repointing and some rebuilding were necessary due to weathering.

Major work included replacing the old asbestos cement sheeting and corrugated plastic roof windows.

The roofs on both barns were completely replaced with new supporting timbers and finished with Welsh slate tiling.

Rooflights a Major Design Feature

The new roof showcases stunning Stella rooflights, including four bespoke stainless steel pitched rooflights in the utility room, guest bedroom, and master suite dressing room and ensuite.

Additionally, a bespoke frameless flat rooflight was installed in the kitchen.

The entire build features an exceptionally high standard, with a beautifully designed open-plan kitchen and living area that maximises stunning countryside views towards Market Harborough.

Maximising Daylight

Carolyn and Andy meticulously approached the renovation, researching each element carefully.

This attention to detail is evident in the four rooflights throughout the building.

Satisfying the Customer and the Conservation Officer

Carolyn said: “When it came to the rooflights, it was a question of price, quality and meeting the stipulations of the local conservation officer.

"Stella Rooflight ticked all the right boxes for us and we are delighted with the results.

“We knew we had made the right choice when our highly experienced roofer commented that he had never seen such exceptional quality rooflights!”
