The Kandola family renovated their late Victorian semi-detached property in Royal Leamington Spa, aiming to use high-quality materials.
Although the property is not listed, it is within the Royal Leamington Spa Conservation Area.
Therefore, they ensured that all renovations were sympathetic to the original detailing of the surrounding properties.
The Kandola property and its neighbors are impressive three-story buildings.
They feature traditional red brick detailing and stained-glass windows salvaged from a local church demolished in the late 19th century.
The property boasts decorative elements like intricately detailed stone surrounds, cills, and lintels around every window.
Additional features include tile-hung cladding on front-facing gables, arched brick detailing above doorways, other fenestration, and stone balustrades.
The principal refurbishment included partial demolition and rebuilding of the single-story rear extension, along with creating a dormer on the side roof slope.
They also modified and extended a previous WC, now forming an extended family room with a new Stella flat roof window.
The rebuild transformed the space into a stunning kitchen/dining area, featuring three large bi-fold doors.
Two bespoke conservation Stella rooflights flood the room with light, creating a bright, welcoming space.
Externally, Stella rooflights sit flush with the roofline, offering a thin profile that maximises the glass-to-frame ratio.
The 316L stainless steel construction ensures they will never rust and will last for decades.
Each 2050mm x 1500mm rooflight features two genuine glazing bars, adding strength and satisfying the local Conservation Officer's requirements for an authentic Victorian look.
Both rooflights electronically open with high-performance chain drives, concealed within an American ash hardwood liner for a pleasing finish.
Operated by a wall switch, they include rain and wind sensors that automatically close in adverse weather.
High-specification, solar-controlled, self-clean double glazing minimises solar gain and UV damage while reducing maintenance.
Homeowner, Jo Kandola, said: “I spoke to a few companies who told me that they could potentially deliver what I wanted, but it wasn’t until I spoke with Paul at Stella Rooflight that I felt comfortable.
"He really understood what we were trying to achieve and was extremely knowledgeable about the options available to us.
"I was filled with confidence that they could deliver a product that would meet my high expectations, and I wasn’t disappointed.
“The rooflights look stunning and we are really pleased with the end result.
"We are so delighted with the new space that we actually use it as our main living area – it really has become the hub of our home, it just feels like such a nice space to be in and without sounding over dramatic, it almost looks like a cathedral at times the way the light floods into the space from above.”
